I drink wine everyday, am I an alcoholic?

I love wine. I drink a glass 4-5 times a week and enjoy both new experiences and "old faithful go to's". I can be a snob when I need to be but I'm pretty open to all experiences. When I was being particularly loud at a recent event, I was asked by 2 people close to me if I think I may have a problem with alcohol....how very judgmental! Particularly because I'm one of those people that struggles to filter the words that come out of my mouth with or without a drink.  My personality is no reflection of the...

Help! I'm a novice! What flavours am I looking for in a wine?

So, I'm currently doing my WSET. Wine and Spirits Education Certificate Level 3. I'm opening up my palate to so many different varieties, particularly from France and I won't lie, sometimes it's intimidating and I struggle. Today, I came across this amazing infographic on Pinterest. Super Super helpful! Excellent if you are just learning and want to know the FIRST thing you should be thinking about when you smell or taste a wine. Would love to know your thoughts. It will definitely help me and I hope it helps you.

New World vs Old World

This week in Wine Daily, we explore the New Vs the Old World of Wine! You know we sell a lot of Italian Wine and Italian Wine is classified as Old World. What does that mean? Characteristically, wines from the Old World tend to be lighter-bodied, more restrained, and lower in alcohol, though this is very much a generalization and not always true. The main trait all Old World wine countries have in common is that their wine making is heavily restricted, with guidelines all wineries must follow. Each country and region of that country in the Old World has...

What are sulfites and why are they added to wine?

Many of you will know that Sensi just realeased a No Added Sulphite Sangiovese. It has been super popular but I’ve been surprised by how many people have asked “what are sulfates?” So it prompted me to write this post. Sulfates  are organic compounds that occur naturally in grapes and many other fruits and vegetables. But sulphur dioxide is also added to wine as an anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial agent to prevent the wine from going off. This is first added during transportation from vines to winery and then may be added again to STOP the fermentation process if winemakers choose...

How do I preserve wine bottles that are half full?

This is an interesting question that we get asked regularly at shows and expos. You know when you open a bottle of wine between two people and for some reason, you just don’t finish it? (It doesn’t happen often in my household but apparently it happens in others) Here are a few tips from us about how to preserve those bottles of wine! Sparkling: Firstly, NO, the Silver Spoon doesn’t work. Where on earth did that idea come from anyway? Seriously! Obviously, a champagne cork will not fit back into the bottle so I recommend keeping regular corks from Reds...

The Relapse

Ok…so I did REALLY well for a few weeks. I got to 21 days without a drink before I was invited down to Melbourne with a friend for the Start Up Smart Awards, she was nominated for a People’s Choice Award. Which she won… Which also meant it was time to celebrate at Siglo with other fantastic and inspiring winners! Which also meant a VERY nice bottle of Red was purchased and there was NO saying NO to that bottle. It was a 2004 Rockford SVS Flaxman Valley Shiraz. It will never be seen again apparently. It was extraordinary. A...

*Rant Alert* – Sydney Lockouts

So some of you will know it was my Birthday on Friday 11th. On the 12th, around 20 of my friends hit the town to celebrate the year to come. We had an awesome night at karaoke before hitting a busy pub to have a dance. People started to leave and around 12:50am, the few of us who were left decided to head somewhere else. When we were leaving, I noticed how many police officers and security guards were starting to roam around the streets and stand outside of the pubs and clubs along the street. At first, I thought...
